Covid-19 Restrictions, July 17, 2021

Yesterday the local police came to the cantina and let us know that the beach and the campground were to be closed until further notice. The Cantina is serving food to go.

There are 10 cases reported in San Juanico and one death. Some say Covid spread from a Father’s Day party but the perception is that it was carried in by travelers from out of the area. If you come, observe protocol; wear a mask in public, distance and keep your hands clean.

We hope this will pass soon.

March 2021

Despite the Covid 19 restrictions over the past year, travelers continued to make their way to Scorpion Bay. The favored driving route has become the highway through Mexicali and San Felipe that meets Mexican Highway 1 north of Guerrero Negro. This route is about the same distance from San Diego and has much less traffic, fewer 18 wheelers and no mountain passes.

It’s been a tough year for the fishing cooperative. Lobster season was a bust. Some of the regular travelers who did not come this past year instead sent money to support their friends.

The Cantina and campground is open. Masks and distancing are still required. The full apartment (2 bedroom, 2 bath and loft) will be available for guests this season.

Reopening - June 24, 2020

Cantina and Campground is open on a limited and conditional basis. The Government of BCS issued a set of health and safety protocols that businesses must observe to reopen. We ask for your assistance and cooperation in complying.

The staff will be practicing, physical distancing, sanitation and wearing masks and ask that you do the same while at the Campground and Cantina.

The number of people who can be in the restaurant are limited as are the number of campsites. The restaurant tables will be spread out. Campers may be in groups up to eight people and must maintain 12 feet between adjoining campsites.

To assist in achieving physical distancing, day users of the beach are asked to park behind the Federal Zone rather than on the cliff edge.

Notice:

To prevent future beach closures please observe the following measures established by the Government.

Wear your mask when you could meet people not in your group.

A maximum of 10 surfers are allowed in the water at each break at any one time.

Limit your sessions to no more than 2 hours and maintain a healthy distance from one another.

Campers may locate on the cliff edge and must maintain a minimum of 12 feet between campsites.

Parking for day use of the beach is away from the cliff edge, behind the Federal Zone.

Thanks for your cooperation and assistance.
